Fashion Focus: Butterflies in Edun Spring/Summer 2012 by Ryan McGinley

Beautiful Rebels” is an enchanting Ad Campaign capturing the Edun Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The campaign saturated in the fluttering charm of butterflies was photographed and directed by Ryan McGinley. The photographer known for his penchant for surprise in his artistic work was completely inspired by the unexpectedness of butterflies, their freedom to fly away and eloquence in existence. With those factors McGinley wanted to explore natural yet unpredictable behavior of butterflies towards the body.  As he explains: I was interested in how the body could reveal the butterfly. How it could fly out of the models’ mouths, hands or pants in its unfurling glory” (source). That is also what we can observe on the video with six featured species from Africa flying around the pink hued hair of Charlotte Free or tattooed chest of Bradley Soileau in the rhythm of gospel tunes “If I Had A Little Love” by the Majestic Arrows”. The video and pictures composes beautiful composition of the butterfly colors with the subliminal fashion theme presenting pieces from the Edun Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
