Iris van Herpen is young and very talented fashion designer that infuses her scope of creativity blurring the vision between fashion, art and technology. She successfully joins machinery with the tribute to the traditional craftsmanship and precious handwork. Her collections are the presentations of the light vision of avant-garde that successfully conquers Parisian Haute Couture. As the graduate of the ArtEZ Insitute of the Arts in Arnhem in Netherlands in 2006 followed by thriving intern in Alexander McQueen, she decided to launch eponymous label in 2007. After that her indisputable talent and individuality on the fashion stage has been recognized at international level and awarded by professionals including Dutch Fashion Awards, RADO Young Designer Awards. She became also a member of the esteemed Chambre Syndical de la Haute Couture.

The latest collection of Iris van Herpen for Spring/Summer 2012 Haute Couture Show in Paris is entitled “Micro”. Sculptural silhouettes and intricate three dimensional constructions signified by Iris signature have very rich source of inspiration – whimsical miracles and peculiarity of the universe, very often obvious for daily routine yet left unrecognized by many. As she explains these microscopic organisms express”a beauty that is half way between extraordinary and bizarre”. Influenced by the scientific photography of Steve Gschmeissner, Iris was completely amazed with the complexity of microscopic species living in a symbiosis with the rest of the world. Her creations are the fashion response to the photographic visions of microscopic insects with the use of 3D printing techniques and handwork. She invited a team of experts including architect Isaie Bloch, graphic artist Tara Doughans, artist Michael Hansmeyer, milliner Stephen Jones and also 3D print company Materialise in order to achieve challenging goals for the collection. The effect is far more than stunning, presenting the insight into the creations made of uncommon materials like Plexiglas, antique bronze, latex and lampshade textile. The palette of colours is expressed by lightness in white and beige colours, implementing the tones of brown, ray-grey, copper, brown, metallic aubergine and dark metal silver as well.

The experimental nature of the collection is perfectly fulfilled by the catwalk heels – FANG model – the result of the 5th collaboration of Iris van Herpen with exceptional shoe brand United Nude. The design of untypical heels is constructed with the ten teeth bottom. The shoes are available in many colours and style yet with the signature heels.
